Conservatory Painting in Swansea

Daffodil Decor are Swansea’s conservatory painters, specialising in spray-applied UPVC colour changes for dated white structures across SA1, SA2, and SA3.
Many of Swansea’s 1990s and 2000s conservatories are ageing well in structure but looking dated in colour. White UPVC that yellowed five years ago no longer matches the rest of the exterior.
A professional repaint updates the whole structure without the cost of replacement.
- UPVC conservatory frameworks — colour change or refresh
- Aluminium conservatory frames — recoloured to match updated windows
- Timber conservatory frames — stripped, prepared, and repainted
- Dwarf walls and surrounding brickwork — included where needed

UPVC Conservatory Frameworks
White UPVC conservatories are by far the most common structure we paint. Installed during the 1990s and early 2000s, many are now yellowing, chalky, or dated against updated windows and doors. Semis in Sketty, detached homes in Killay, and houses throughout Gowerton are typical examples.
Painting a UPVC conservatory is a specialist task. Standard exterior paint applied directly to UPVC will not bond without correct preparation. It begins to peel within months. The surface needs to be thoroughly cleaned, degreased, and lightly abraded to create a surface key.
A UPVC adhesion primer is then applied before the topcoat. This bonding system is what gives the finish durability. We typically apply two coats by spray for a smooth, factory-like finish.
Aluminium Conservatory Frames
Aluminium frames are found on older structures — typically conservatories installed in the 1970s and 1980s, where aluminium was the standard framing material before UPVC became dominant.
Aluminium takes paint well when properly prepared, but requires a different primer system from UPVC. The profile surface needs to be abraded, cleaned, and primed with a metal-compatible adhesion primer before the topcoat. We can match colours across materials.
Timber Conservatory Frames
Timber-framed conservatories are found on period properties across Uplands, Brynmill, and Mumbles — typically older lean-to or Victorian-style structures on Edwardian and interwar houses.
Timber requires a different preparation approach: stripping back any loose or flaking paint, sanding, spot-priming bare wood, and applying a flexible exterior finish. We use oil-based or flexible acrylic exterior finishes chosen to handle the expansion and contraction a Swansea-facing south or west elevation imposes.

Dwarf Walls and Surrounding Brickwork
Most UPVC and aluminium conservatories sit on a low brick or blockwork dwarf wall that was unpainted or originally painted to match the main house. When the conservatory frames are resprayed in a new colour, the dwarf wall often needs updating too.
Daffodil Decor includes dwarf wall painting in conservatory quotes where it adds to the finished result. We can match the dwarf wall to the frame colour or tie it back to the house exterior.
Colour Options
Anthracite grey remains the most requested colour on Swansea properties — it works across a wide range of exterior styles and sits well against both brick and rendered walls. Charcoal black is popular on more contemporary properties. Heritage greens and creams suit the Edwardian terraces in Uplands and the period bungalows around Mumbles.
Daffodil Decor advises on conservatory colour choices before starting. If you have recently had your window frames painted, we can colour-match the conservatory to match.
How It Works
1. Inspection and Quote
We assess the conservatory frame material, current condition, and extent of glazing and masking required before quoting.
2. Cleaning and Degreasing
All UPVC, aluminium, or timber surfaces are cleaned and degreased thoroughly before any preparation work begins.
3. Surface Preparation
UPVC is lightly abraded for adhesion. Aluminium is primed with a metal-compatible primer. Timber is sanded, stripped where needed, and spot-primed.
4. Masking
The conservatory’s large glazing areas are fully masked. This is the most time-intensive preparation step and is done carefully to protect the glass.
5. Primer Application
Primer is applied and allowed to cure fully before the topcoat stage.
6. Topcoat by Spray
Two coats applied by spray for a consistent, smooth finish across all profiles. Final inspection before we leave.
