Rob and team carried out full redecoration of our newly purchased property recently. Rob gave an incredibly detailed summary of work required and was able to start the project quickly for us. They worked to quite tight timescales to get it ready for us to move in and were so accommodating and professional. We're so happy with the result and would definitely use them again and recommend to others.

Brilliant service! The team at Daffodil Decor set up my business perfectly—professional, efficient, and very detail-focused. Their workmanship is top-quality, and the whole experience was smooth and stress-free. Highly recommended!

Timing and Surface Preparation

The most common reason plasterboard painting fails: it’s rushed. New plasterboard needs a minimum of four to six weeks to dry before any mist coat or primer is applied. In Swansea’s coastal climate — around 1,200mm of rainfall per year — six to eight weeks is safer.

Moisture Testing

A moisture meter confirms the board is within the paintable range. Most painters skip this. It’s the single biggest cause of adhesion failure on new plasterboard.

Joint Inspection

Every taped joint needs three finishing coats of compound before it’s ready. Visible seams through paint are a prep failure, not a painting one. Daffodil Decor inspect every joint before priming.

Dust Removal

Installation leaves fine gypsum dust across the surface. Primer applied over dust bonds to the dust, not the board. Thorough cleaning before any interior painting work is essential.

Filling and Sanding

Nail holes and screw dimples filled and lightly sanded. Gypsum is soft — over-sanding creates divots that show through the topcoat.

Mixed Surface Assessment

Many Swansea renovations mix new plasterboard with original lime plaster on adjoining walls. Both need different preparation in the same room — we assess each surface before we start.

Before priming, Daffodil Decor’s preparation covers every surface in the room — from new plasterboard to existing lime plaster — so nothing is missed.

Mist Coats, Primers, and Sealers

Standard multi-surface primers don’t work on gypsum. They absorb unevenly and leave a patchy base no topcoat fully corrects.

Mist Coat

The standard UK method for new plasterboard. A diluted emulsion (70% paint, 30% water) seals the porous gypsum surface and allows even absorption before full topcoats go on. This is the starting point for most residential work.

Acrylic Plasterboard Primer

Used for moisture-sensitive rooms or faster turnarounds. Penetrates evenly and creates a uniform base for topcoat. Ideal for bathroom painting and kitchen projects where humidity is a factor.

Topcoats and Finishes

After sealing, two full topcoats are applied. Matt or soft-sheen finishes work best on new plasterboard — more forgiving of minor surface variation than gloss. In bathrooms and kitchens, Daffodil Decor specify humidity-rated paints and moisture-resistant sealers for ceiling painting and walls alike.

Choosing the right primer and sealer is the difference between a finish that lasts and one that peels within months.

Plasterboard Painting Across Swansea

Different property types across Swansea need different plasterboard painting approaches. Here’s how Daffodil Decor handle each one.

Victorian and Edwardian Terraces (SA2)

Uplands, Brynmill, and Sketty properties often mix original lime plaster with new plasterboard in the same room. Streets like Walter Road, Uplands Crescent, and Ffynone Road are typical. Daffodil Decor deliver a seamless finish across both surface types.

Post-War Council Properties (SA6)

Townhill, Cockett, and Llansamlet properties built in the 1950s and 60s are a significant renovation market. Our wall painting contractors handle high-volume re-boarding schemes efficiently.

1930s Semis (SA2)

Killay, Fforestfach, and Sketty semis are frequently re-boarded during renovation. We work systematically through each room before the next trades follow.

New-Build Estates (SA4)

Penllergaer, Gowerton, and Loughor new builds require a zero-defect finish before handover. We inspect every surface before sealing.

Holiday Let Renovations (SA3)

Mumbles, Langland, and Gower holiday lets get priority scheduling. Daffodil Decor work to fixed opening dates and finish to a standard the rental market demands.

Plasterboard Painting Costs in Swansea

Prices are estimates only. Every installation is different. For an accurate quote, call 01792 949708.

Surface Condition

Poor joints or rushed drying increase prep time and cost. Boards that haven’t fully dried need additional time before painting can begin.

Project Scope

Single room, extension, or full house sit at different scales. Rough guide: single room from £250, extensions from £600, full house renovations from £1,500.

Wall Type Mix

Lime plaster alongside plasterboard requires individual assessment per surface. Mixed walls in older Swansea renovations take longer to prepare than uniform plasterboard.
