Render Painting in Swansea

Daffodil Decor are render painters in Swansea, covering rendered semis and period properties across SA1, SA2, SA3, and the surrounding suburbs.
Rendered walls are one of the most common exterior finishes in South Wales. When the render stains, cracks, or fades, a professional repaint restores the weatherproofing and transforms how the property looks.
- Smooth and sand-faced rendered walls — full repaint or colour refresh
- Hairline crack filling and surface repairs before painting
- K-Rend and polymer render systems — compatible coatings applied correctly
- Lime render on period properties — breathable coatings throughout
- Biological growth treatment — moss and algae removed before any paint is applied
Rendered houses across Sketty, Brynmill, Uplands, and Gowerton are among the properties we work on most regularly. We know what Swansea’s climate does to rendered exteriors and how to prepare and finish them properly.

Smooth and Fine-Textured Render
Smooth sand-and-cement render is the finish found on the majority of rendered properties in Swansea. It is the standard exterior wall coating on post-war housing — semis in Gowerton and Pontarddulais, 1960s and 70s detached homes in Killay, and modernised brick properties across the inner suburbs.
Smooth render takes paint well when the surface is properly prepared. The process is straightforward: clean, treat, fill, prime bare areas, and apply two coats of breathable masonry paint.
A rendered house last painted more than a decade ago will typically have algae staining and hairline cracks. All of this is dealt with before we apply a single coat of new colour.
Hairline Cracks and Surface Repairs
Hairline cracking is normal in render — thermal movement in the wall substrate causes the surface to expand and contract over time, and small cracks develop. Left unfilled, they allow water ingress that cycles through freeze-thaw and gradually widens the crack.
Daffodil Decor fills hairline cracks with flexible exterior filler before any paint is applied. For larger or structural cracks, we advise on whether a render repair specialist is needed before we proceed with painting.
K-Rend and Polymer Render
K-Rend and similar thin-coat polymer renders are modern systems, usually applied coloured through the render and designed to be self-cleaning. They are increasingly found on properties renovated in the last fifteen years across Swansea.
K-Rend can be painted, but standard masonry paint does not bond well to these systems. Daffodil Decor uses products designed for polymer render systems where these are present.

Specialist Render Painting

Lime Render on Period Properties
Victorian and Edwardian properties in Uplands, Brynmill, and parts of Mumbles were often built with lime-based render. Lime render is softer and more flexible than modern sand-and-cement. It needs to breathe.
Applying a non-breathable masonry paint to lime render traps moisture in the wall. Breathable mineral paint or a specialist lime-compatible masonry coating is the correct approach.
Biological Growth Treatment
Green and black staining from algae, moss, and lichen is common on north and west-facing rendered walls in Swansea. The sheltered parts of the valley, particularly around Uplands and Brynmill, are among the most affected.
Painting over biological growth without treatment is one of the most common reasons render paint jobs fail early. Daffodil Decor applies a mould treatment to all affected areas before painting.
How Render Painting Works
1. Property Inspection
We assess the render type, surface condition, crack extent, and biological growth before quoting. K-Rend or lime render is identified at this stage.
2. Pressure Washing
The full rendered surface is washed down to remove dirt, biological growth, and loose material. Low-pressure rinse for K-Rend systems.
3. Mould Treatment
Applied to any area with green or black biological growth and allowed to work before washing off.
4. Crack Filling and Repairs
Hairline cracks filled with flexible exterior filler. Bare or repaired areas spot-primed.
5. Masking
Windows, doors, sills, and surrounding surfaces protected before any paint is applied.
6. Paint Application
Two coats of breathable masonry paint by brush, roller, or spray depending on scale and surface type.
